United ISD Announces 2026–2027 Registration, Launches Virtual Learning Program

United Independent School District (UISD) announced major updates for the 2026-2027 school year, including the opening of student registration and the launch of a new district-wide virtual learning option, during a press conference held Wednesday morning.
Beginning February 2, families will be able to register students for the upcoming school year and explore United ConnectED, UISD’s new virtual program designed to offer flexible, high-quality learning opportunities while maintaining the district’s academic standards.
Superintendent Dr. Gerardo Cruz encouraged families to take advantage of the early registration window and explore the academic programs available across the district.
“As we look ahead to the next school year, our focus remains on creating learning environments that are innovative and centered on student success,” said Dr. Cruz. “Opening registration early not only allows us to plan adequately for the upcoming year, but it also gives families time to explore the many opportunities available to them and make informed decisions for their children’s education.”
UISD continues to expand programs that support college, career, and workforce readiness while adapting to advancements in technology and instruction.
A highlight of the press conference was the introduction of United ConnectED, which also opens for enrollment on February 2.
“United ConnectED expands access to quality education by offering families a flexible learning option without sacrificing academic expectations or student support,” said Rebecca Coss-Morales, Associate Superintendent of District Administration and Student Services. “This program allows us to meet students where they are and provide an option that fits a variety of learning needs.”
United ConnectED will serve as an additional instructional pathway, complementing UISD’s traditional and specialized programs.

UISD Board Vice President Aliza Flores-Oliveros
The United ISD Board of Trustees reaffirmed their commitment to expanding educational opportunities and supporting student success across the district. “I’m elated that we are able to finally introduce a hybrid program that offers in-class instruction and virtual learning. This is something that we were able to do as a district during covid and it worked,” shared UISD Board Vice President Aliza Flores-Oliveros. “This program creates opportunities for students who may have barriers to attending school in person, allowing them to continue their education without interruption.”
Dr. Cruz explained that plans for the virtual program moved forward following the approval of Senate Bill 569, which allows Texas public school districts to offer virtual learning options. As a pilot program, United ConnectED will initially serve high school students in grades 9-12.
“Any student in the state of Texas will now have the opportunity to enroll in United ISD and receive instruction from certified UISD teachers,” Dr. Cruz said. “Students will have access to a locally developed curriculum, and those enrolled locally in the virtual program will still be able to participate in extracurricular activities, including fine arts and athletics.”
District leaders also highlighted the continued growth of the UISD Early College Program, which now accepts 150 students per campus, with 50 percent of seats reserved for qualifying students with the highest GPAs, further expanding access to college-level coursework.
United ISD continues to expand opportunities, removing barriers, and ensuring every student has access to an education that prepares them for what’s next. More information about registration and program offerings will be available when enrollment opens February 2.
