UISD Hosts 7th Annual Polar Plunge to Support Special Olympics Athletes

United ISD held its 7th annual UISD Polar Plunge bringing together campus staff, teachers, students, and administrators for a high-energy community event benefiting Special Olympics athletes. The event took place at the Carroll E. Summers Jr. Aquatic Center state-of-the-art swimming pool. 17 district campuses made a splash — raising thousands of dollars for a great cause, while showing off their creativity and dance skills. Several famous look-alikes were spotted in the crowd from Bad Bunny to Katy Perry, Shakira, Beyonce and even Michael Jackson.
Special thanks to our amazing panel of judges who faced the difficult task of selecting winners from the many unique performances. Thanks to everyone who participated and raised funds this year.
Awards were presented for first, second, and third place, along with a People’s Choice Award voted on by attendees.

Each participating campus and department showcased a performance inspired by this year’s theme, “Best Super Bowl Halftime Show of All Time.” While the performances varied in creativity, music, and costumes, they all shared one requirement: every show had to end with a splash into the pool.
At least two participants from each campus took the plunge, with students, staff, faculty, and administrators all encouraged to participate. Campuses raised funds through their own on-site fundraisers leading up to the event, contributing to a districtwide goal of $30,000. Last year’s UISD Polar Plunge raised $14,439.03, marking steady growth since the event began in 2018, when the first plunge raised just $400.
All funds raised go directly toward supporting UISD students who participate in inclusion sports, as well as providing year-round sports training, competition opportunities, health initiatives, and inclusion programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The popular event is hosted annually by the UISD Special Education Department, led by Executive Director Laura De Los Santos. She praised her entire team, including the event coordinator Miguel Chavez.
The UISD Polar Plunge continues to serve as both a fundraiser and a celebration—bringing awareness, school spirit, and community support together for our special students.
