Full-Circle Moment for United South Alum Named Early College Dean

It’s a full-circle moment for one proud Panther.
United Independent School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Jaime De Leon Jr. as the new United South High School (USHS) Early College Dean, marking another milestone in a 25-year UISD career that began shortly after he graduated from United South.
A USHS Class of 2002 alumnus, De Leon began his career with UISD at just 18 years old in the Technology Department. He later transitioned to the classroom as a Computer Science teacher and Testing Coordinator at United South before taking on his first administrative role as an Assistant Principal at STEP Academy.
He later returned to his alma mater, where he served as an Assistant Principal at both the United South Ninth Grade Campus and Main Campus.
“I couldn't be more excited! This is a total full-circle moment and a lifelong achievement for me,” De Leon shared. “Going from walking these halls as a student to working here, and now having the privilege to serve in this new role fills me with so much pride. My heart is full, and I’m ready and eager to bring my absolute best to our students and staff every single day.”
His experience in the classroom, student assessment, campus operations, and administration has given De Leon a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to support students and prepare them for life beyond high school.
“I hope to contribute to the continued success of our students and community while upholding the high standards established by our campus and district administration,” De Leon added.
At the heart of his journey is his family. “My wife and children have always been my greatest inspiration,” De Leon said. “Education allowed me to serve others while remaining present for the important moments in my family’s life.”
De Leon also credits the leaders who supported and encouraged him throughout his career.
“I extend a heartfelt thank-you to every leader who believed in me, helped shape me, and opened doors along my journey,” he shared. “Never underestimate the power of inspiring someone else.”
De Leon earned a Bachelor of Applied Technology from the University of Texas at Brownsville and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Angelo State University. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing, traveling, and spending quality time in the mountains with his family.
From Panther student to educator, administrator, and now Early College Dean, De Leon continues to give back to the school community that helped shape him.
Congratulations, Mr. De Leon!
