United Independent School District is proud to announce that Robert Burrier has been promoted to principal of Lamar Bruni Vergara Middle School.

“As principal, I will oversee the daily operations of the campus while ensuring that every decision is centered on student success,” Burrier said. “My responsibilities include supporting teachers, promoting student achievement, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, working closely with families, developing staff, and leading our campus toward continuous improvement.”

Burrier has proudly served United ISD for 28 years as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and most recently the Early College Dean at United South High School. He has served as a teacher at Prada Elementary, Los Obispos Middle School, Lyndon B. Johnson High School and United South High School.

“All these experiences have allowed me to work with students and staff at multiple levels while focusing on instruction, leadership development, college readiness, and student achievement. I am excited to bring those experiences to Lamar Bruni Vergara Middle School,” Burrier said.

Burrier, who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, is currently finishing up his Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

He said his goal in his new role is to build a culture where every student and staff member believes they can grow and succeed. He wants Lamar Bruni Vergara Middle School to be a place where students feel safe, supported, and challenged every day.

“By working together with our teachers, staff, parents, and community, I hope to strengthen academic achievement, develop student leaders, and create a campus culture built on pride, respect, and high expectations,” Burrier said.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf with his son, Ryan, attending sporting events, and supporting our local community. He also enjoys reading and learning about leadership, education, and ways to continue growing as a school leader.

“My family has always been my greatest source of support and inspiration. I am married to an educator as well. My wife, Elsa, has been with UISD for 26 years. My son, Ryan, is a product of UISD - he is currently a student in the district,” Burrier said.

“Their encouragement has helped me throughout my career, and I am grateful for the sacrifices they have made along the way. I have also been fortunate to work alongside outstanding mentors, colleagues, and educators who have challenged me, believed in me, and helped shape the leader I am today,” he added.

As the new school year begins, he has some valuable advice for his students.

“Believe in yourself, work hard, and never stop learning. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, take on challenges, or make mistakes - growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones. Be kind to others, take pride in your school, and remember that your attitude and effort will often determine your success more than anything else. Together, we’re going to make this an incredible year,” Burrier said.
