United ISD Scholars Advance to National Merit Finalist Standing; Commended Students Honored

United Independent School District is proud to announce a milestone in academic achievement as two students from Alexander High School have officially been named Finalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program.
In addition to this elite achievement, the district is celebrating four Commended Scholars from both Alexander and United High Schools who have been recognized for their exceptional academic promise.
National Merit Finalists: Alexander High School
Following a rigorous screening process involving academic records, school recommendations, and qualifying test scores, Ashmita Ghosh and Farrell F. Meng have advanced to Finalist standing. They now rank among the top 1% of high school seniors in the nation and are eligible for National Merit Scholarships to be awarded later this spring.
National Merit Commended Scholars
Four additional UISD students have been named Commended Scholars. These students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.3 million students who entered the competition, representing a level of academic excellence that places them in the top tier of students nationwide.

"Advancing to the Finalist stage and being named a Commended Scholar are reflections of years of hard work, discipline, and a passion for learning. These scholars represent the standard of excellence we strive for at United ISD, and we look forward to seeing the incredible contributions they will make in the future."
The National Merit Scholarship Program, conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships that has been honoring scholastic talent since 1955.
