Sick Leave Bank (SLB) Program

The United ISD Sick Leave Bank (SLB) program is designed to provide a financial safety net for full time employees. The bank offers additional local sick leave days when an unexpected, severe medical situation arises.

Purpose of the Program

The SLB provides additional sick leave days to registered members who are facing:

  • An unexpected, extended illness.
  • A mandatory, non-elective surgery.
  • A temporary disability resulting from an injury.

Membership Benefits & Eligibility

By choosing to contribute to the Sick Leave Bank, you protect yourself against lost wages during a major medical event.

  • Annual Coverage: Eligible members can receive up to 30 additional sick leave days per school year.
  • Exhaustion of Leave: Days will be applied from the bank only after the member has completely exhausted all accumulated personal leave days and non-contract days.

How to Join and Stay Qualified

  • New Members: You must contribute a minimum of 2 local leave days to qualify for initial eligibility.
  • Continuing Members: You must contribute 1 local leave day each subsequent year to maintain your active membership.

A member must submit the SLB Request for Days Form to the human resources office via the following methods:

All requests for Sick Leave Bank days are formally reviewed and voted on during called meetings by the Sick Leave Bank Governing Committee, which holds the final authority to approve, deny, or modify requests for up to 30 days. Once a decision is made, the Committee Chairperson processes approved days through the Human Resources Compensation Administrator.

New Member Enrollment is open annually from July 1st through October 31st.
