UISD Board Trustee Rudy Gonzalez Goes Pink to Fight Cancer

United Independent School District Board Member for District 2, Rudy Gonzalez, is joining the fight against breast cancer this October by participating in the American Cancer Society’s Laredo Wears Pink campaign. This is the first time Gonzalez has joined the annual awareness and fundraising initiative.
Gonzalez, who also serves as a Criminal Justice teacher at Cigarroa High School and previously represented District 1 on the Laredo City Council for eight years, has a deeply personal connection to the cause. His aunt is a breast cancer survivor, and both of his parents unfortunately passed away after battling liver and colon cancer.
Gonzalez says he struggled to see his parents going through the illness, but thanks to the support of those around him, he was able to cope. Through his own experience, he now encourages patients and their families to stay strong.
“We are here fighting for you,” Gonzalez added. “You are not alone; we are all fighting together.”
Gonzalez was nominated for Laredo Wears Pink and is one of 21 community leaders participating this year. Funds raised through the campaign directly benefit patients and their families, helping to cover the costs of treatment, travel, and accommodations for those who have to seek medical attention outside of Laredo.
“Make a difference, your donation goes a long way and helps people in need,” Board Trustee Rudy Gonzalez said. “We all have family who go through situations like this, and your support saves lives.”
With an initial fundraising goal of $2,500, Gonzalez has set his sights higher, hoping to raise $10,000 by the end of October. Donations can be made by scanning the QR code on the flyer below or visiting the following American Cancer Society link: (secure.acsevents).
