United Independent School District Launches In-House Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

United Independent School District has launched a new, centralized program designed to provide comprehensive educational services for deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students.
The new initiative provides students with direct, specialized academic instruction from certified teachers of the deaf. By creating a dedicated in-house program, UISD will foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment tailored to the unique communication and academic needs of DHH students, ensuring they have the resources needed to excel.
Previously, the district relied on outside resources to meet the needs of these students. The transition to an in-house model is expected not only to enhance the quality and consistency of services but also to generate significant cost savings for the district.
"Our new Deaf and Hard of Hearing program at United ISD reflects our district’s unwavering commitment to ensuring every student has the tools and support needed to succeed," said UISD Superintendent Dr. Gerardo Cruz. "This program not only provides specialized services, but also fosters a culture of inclusion and equity.”
This strategic move underscores UISD's dedication to providing accessible, top-tier education for all learners within the community.
