United ISD proudly announces that Ethan Koroma, a senior at United High School, has been announced as a Semifinalist in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).
The National Merit Scholarship Program is a United States academic scholarship competition for recognition and university scholarships administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The highest-achieving students in the NMSC are designated as National Merit Scholars. Finalists and Semifinalists are also given recognition for their academic and extracurricular achievements.
A total of 6 students were commended across the district, with Ethan Koroma being the only student to excel as a semifinalist.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed application that includes an academic record along with documentation that corroborates their participation in school and civic activities. The application also requires a description of leadership abilities and honors received by the candidate.
Koroma is one of only 16,000 Semi-Finalists who will have the opportunity to pursue 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than 31 million that will be offered next spring.
Congratulations, Ethan Koroma!
