United Independent School District announced a generous donation from Impacto Media for educational support and scholarships for UISD students.
Impacto Media presented two checks totalling over $100,000 for students through billboard advertisements placed at UISD campuses. The businesses who purchase advertising on the displays were recognized for their contributions to the grand total. The sum included $20,000 set aside specifically for scholarships.
Associate Superintendent of Administration and Operations Mike Garza expressed gratitude and optimism for the District’s partnership with Impacto Media, which has paid off so well for UISD’s students. “We always get a lot of comments about bridging the relationship between the private and public sector. This is a perfect scenario where that actually happens. I'm very proud of the actual sponsors that have come through, knowing that the results of some of these funds are going to end up in the students’ hands. Hopefully, that reinvestment comes back for some of the students that are wanting to stay in town or come back and work here,” he said”
Impacto Media Director Guillermo Montalvo was very happy about being able to raise such a large sum of money to help students. “I have always believed that education is the future of any community in any country in the world. What am I doing personally? I, who had the opportunity to study my postgraduate career, am returning a little of what my education gave me,” he said, “I feel very honored because I was the creator of this project and I feel very happy and very blessed because we are helping education.”
Local businesses that advertised the billboards and, thereby, contributed include Laredo Emergency Room, Dr. CC’s Tooth Factory, DX Xpress Inc., Sakura Buffet, Texas Insurance, My Little College, and Peg Energy among others.
