Some UISD students are gearing up for the Total Solar Eclipse on Monday.
Three United High School students - Danica Vela-Cuellar, Marianna Resendez and Atzel Chavez - tested out the protective eyewear on Friday outside of the school. They are eager to view the eclipse and urged students to be safe when doing so.
UISD is stressing safety, using proper eye protection and learning more about the eclipse. While the eclipse on Monday is total for those in the path of totality, Laredo will see a partial eclipse with maximum coverage of the sun at 98.1 percent.
Elementary school students will not be allowed to go outside to view the partial eclipse. But they will view the eclipse through a live feed from NASA.
Middle and high school students who are allowed to view the partial solar eclipse need a permission slip and protective eyewear.
Eye safety is crucial, so please use the appropriate eye protection on Monday.
