Christmas came a little early for several schools from the United Independent School District. UISD received over five thousand dollars in funds after participating in the McDonald’s Fall McTeacher night. This past October, teachers from seven elementary schools from United ISD volunteered to serve at different McDonald’s restaurants. From selling cookies to cleaning tables, teachers took the opportunity to demonstrate leadership and service to their students and community for approximately 3 hours. In turn, McDonald’s gave 20 percent of the day’s profits to the schools represented. This partnership between McDonald’s and United ISD has existed for over 11 years and serves to benefit UISD students. Every year teachers actively participate, serving in the Spring and Fall. The seven schools that participated were: Gutierrez Elementary, Kazen Elementary, DeLlano Elementary, Juarez-Lincoln Elementary, Cuellar Elementary, Centeno Elementary, and Borchers Elementary. The President of McDonald’s of Laredo, Mr. Mike Marasco along with other McDonald’s representatives presented the checks to each school and were grateful for the partnership. The amount for each school varied with some receiving over one thousand dollars. This year’s top school was Juarez-Lincoln Elementary receiving a check for $1,225. In total the schools garnered $5,295.
