UHS Students Awarded Scholarships by 550 Pizzeria

Congratulations to United High School Seniors Alejandra Rodriguez and Mariana Sofia Maldonado on being awarded a scholarship from 550 Pizzeria. About a month ago, 550 Pizzeria held a contest at UHS for art students to create a new design for the restaurant's pizza boxes as a tribute to their upcoming 3rd anniversary. The requirements included creating a design that represented the city of "Laredough" and of course pizza. Both students were selected out of approximately 100 entries and were awarded each a scholarship of 550 dollars which they will be using to pursue a career in art. 

“I wanted to give out this scholarship to students in United High because it is my alma mater. I always wanted to give back and what better way than to have art students from here design my new pizza boxes,” said Janet Zapata, Owner of 550 Pizzeria.

Both seniors were thrilled to have won the contest.

“Thank you 550 for letting me participate in this contest. I’m very grateful that I won and I will put the money to good use for my studies,” said Alejandra Rodriguez.

“I love art, it's my passion so to reach this achievement is a step in the right direction. Thank you 550 Pizzeria,” said Mariana Maldonado.

You can expect to see our artists' designs on 550's pizza boxes this coming June. Thank you to Owner Janet Zapata from 550 Pizzeria for thinking of our students and giving them the opportunity to display their creativity. Zapata congratulated and presented each student with a check at the United High School Main Campus.
