UISD Promotes Adriana Ramirez to Executive Director of Federal & State Programs

For the last ten years, Adriana P. Ramirez has been the Principal of United South High School working to empower students to become the next generation of independent and knowledgeable citizens by maintaining a caring culture of equity, trust, and collaboration.

In her new role as Executive Director of Federal and State Programs, Ramirez will be responsible for a key department in the district overseeing programs such as McKinney Vento Social Services, Migrant, Family and Community Engagement, as well as organizing the yearly “UISD Parent Summit”.

Ramirez is ready to take on the challenge and looks forward to working with everyone involved in helping our students learn, grow and prosper.

“I am excited to join the hard working dedicated team at Federal and State Programs.  I am committed to continuing to build a strong community of parents and families that come together in support of student success.  I look forward to collaborating with campus administrators to support initiatives for student continuous learning.  Together with the team at Federal and State Programs, we will ensure compliance for both Federal and State Compensatory funding.”

Ramirez will provide leadership, planning, and monitoring of comprehensive plans and programs in accordance with federal, state, and local policies. Her plan is to promote equity through decision making and encourage family and student engagement within our school communities.

“I am grateful to Superintendent David H. Gonzalez and the Board of Trustees for entrusting me in this new role.  I look forward to working with all members of UISD to promote and support student achievement and ensure that every child’s needs are being met.”

Ramirez has worked in UISD for 34 years, starting her educational career as a biology teacher at United High School, where she also served as the Director for the Larriette Dance Team and Cheer group.  In 1999-2000, she joined the administrative team at George Washington Middle School as an Assistant Principal.  While there she served as the campus testing coordinator and worked in the areas of 504, special education, and discipline. In 2001-2013, she served as the Principal of Antonio Gonzalez Middle School.  In 2013-2023, she moved up to serve as the Principal of United South High School.

Ramirez says she worked with an amazing administrative team to bring the Panther community together and create a positive culture that led to student success.  In 2019 United South High School was recognized for earning 7 out of 7 Distinctions from the Texas Education Agency.

Ramirez graduated from United High School and attended Texas State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with certifications in Biology 7-12 and History 7-12.  She earned a Master of Arts in Educational Administration with a Principal’s Certification (EC-12) from Texas A&M International University.  In 2017 she completed the Superintendent Graduate Program with a Superintendent Certification (EC-12).

Ramirez has been married to Tommy Ramirez for 32 years. They have two children who both graduated from United High School.  Andres is currently a teacher and coach at Alexander High School 9th Grade Campus and Selika is practicing property law in Dallas. The active leader says she enjoys reading and exercising.

“I believe in staying active and spending quality time with my family.”
