Pre-Kinder Reading Language Arts (30 Minutes)

Use the following activities to engage your child in learning. Find a quiet place and set up a daily schedule for learning. Have as much fun as possible.

  • Play with letters of the alphabet, naming and making their sounds
  • Read together on a daily basis and ask questions about the book
    • Discuss the characters
    • Discuss the setting
    • Describe the pictures on each page
    • Retell the story
  • Play games to memorize high frequency/sight words.
    Eng: a, and, away, blue, can, come, down, find, for, funny, go, help, here, I, in, is, it, jump, little, look, make, me, my, not, one, play, red, run, said, & see Span: yo, soy, un, una, el, es, tiene, veo, la, tengo, las, los, a, por, y, mi, me, mas, mis, al, tu, si, esta, te gusta, que, aqui, voy, endijo, del, ven, no, su, grande, nos, vamos, ir, y mira
  • Practice writing the letters: Aa, Bb, Cc
  • Practice writing your name
  • Create a book by putting together blank pages where your child can practice writing everyday
  • Keep a journal. Draw pictures that begin with a letter. Take turns drawing pictures for each letter in the alphabet. Try labeling the pictures.
  • Think of a letter. In a bag place objects that begin with that letter. Name the objects in the bag. REPEAT for each letter.
  • Choose an object in your house and have child say the name. Come up with words that rhyme with that object. Can be no-sense words.
  • State two words. Have your child state if they are rhyming words or not. REPEAT with a different set of words. Give rhyming and non-rhyming words.

Pre-Kinder Math (15 - 30 minutes)

Use the following activities to engage your child in learning. Find a quiet place and set up a daily schedule for learning. Have as much fun as possible.

COUNTING SKILLS

  • Rote count from 1 to 30
  • Say a number from 1 to 10. Ask your child to draw a picture to show the appropriate number of objects. REPEAT with a different number.
  • Count a set of objects, write the numeral, and draw a picture. REPEAT

GEOMETRY AND SPATIAL SENSE SKILLS

  • Choose a basic shape and describe it. Ask your child to say the shape and draw it. REPEAT with a different shape.
  • Draw a shape. Ask your child to draw a picture using the shape. REPEAT

MEASUREMENT SKILLS

  • Name two objects in the room and have your child compare their heights/lengths and say which one is taller/longer. REPEAT with a different objects.
  • Name two objects in the room and have your child compare their heights/lengths and say which one is shorter/smaller. REPEAT with a different objects.
  • Name two objects in the room and have your child compare their weight and say which one is heavier. REPEAT with a different objects.
  • Name two objects in the room and have your child compare their weight and say which one is lighter. REPEAT with a different objects.

CLASSIFICATION AND PATTERNS SKILLS

  • Sort objects that are the same into groups. Describe how the groups are similar. REPEAT with a different objects.
  • List 3 scenarios where using a credit card is a good option.
  • Create patterns using common objects such as cheerios, blocks, toys, etc. Describe the pattern. REPEAT
