The United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent David H. Gonzalez are pleased to announce Maria Amparo R. Lanese as the Director of the Communications Department.
Ms. Lanese holds a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Bilingual Education with a Cum Laude designation and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Texas A & M International University (TAMIU). Ms. Lanese holds educator certificates in Elementary (1-8) and Bilingual/ESL-Spanish (6-12).
Lanese is a 25-year veteran educator who began her career with United ISD. She spent her first ten years as an elementary bilingual teacher and later as a high school Spanish teacher at State Recognized and Exemplary Campuses. As a teacher, Lanese assisted in training new teachers, taught summer school, worked as a block mentor for TAMIU students, and earned a Gifted & Talented (GT) certification. From 2006-2018, she worked as the Academic Coordinator for George Washington Middle School and oversaw various programs, including testing, curriculum & instruction, effective teaching practices, GT showcase, and numerous other successful initiatives; she was then subsequently promoted to the Foreign Language Coordinator position for the Curriculum & Instruction Department.
For the past two years, Ms. Lanese has worked as the Advanced Academics/Dual Enrollment Coordinator. In this position, she coordinated the LC/UISD Summer Online Academy and Dual Enrollment Fall/Spring Semesters, Texas College Bridge, and Improvements Committee. Additionally, she assisted with the Magnet programs, UT onRamps, and worked as a translator for Advanced Academics publications.
Ms. Lanese stated, "I'd like to thank our Superintendent, David Gonzalez, and the UISD Board of Directors for entrusting me with the roles and responsibilities of this position. I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead as well as the opportunity to contribute to UISD's continued success."
Lanese will assume her newly appointed position immediately.
