United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to announce Emma Leza as the Associate Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction.
Mrs. Leza is a twenty-six-year veteran educator of United ISD with an extensive background in education. She is a graduate of Texas A&M International University. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, a Bilingual/ESL and Reading Education Certificate, a Principal Certificate, and a Master of Science in Education Administration.
For the past nine years, she has served United ISD as the Executive Director for Instructional Accountability. Before working as Executive Director for Instructional Accountability, she served as the Director for Bilingual Education, as an Assistant Principal at Finley Elementary,
Mrs. Leza's passion for being an educator has allowed her to amass many distinctions. While serving as Assistant Principal at Finley, Leza participated in restructuring goals and objectives, resulting in state recognition. Additionally, as the Director of Bilingual Education, she developed and implemented numerous programs designed to enhance students' successful transition in middle and high school English language programs. As the Executive Director of Instructional Accountability, Mrs. Leza led the development of multiple data programs within the Instructional Reporting Information System (IRIS). She assisted in creating an accountability system that led to the District earning an overall A -rating from Texas education Agency in 2018 and 2019.
Mrs. Leza stated, "I would like to express my gratitude to UISD's Board of Directors and both Superintendents for the confidence and faith they have placed in me to continue the noble work of supporting our students in reaching their full potential. I will continue to provide exceptional direction and leadership through innovation, integrity, and professionalism in all that I do."
Mrs. Leza succeeds Mr. David H. Gonzalez, who has been named Superintendent of Schools for the District. She will assume her newly appointed position as Associate Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction in July 2021.
