Julia Bird Jones Muller Elementary School marked its 20th anniversary on December 17. The uplifting mood of the anniversary melded nicely with the arrival of the holiday season for Muller faculty, staff, students and UISD board members and administrators. Also present at the celebration were Muller family representatives Albert F. Muller Jr. (son of Julia Bird Jones Muller), his spouse Virginia “Cookie” Muller, and daughter Leslie Muller. Principal Mayra Nelda Ramirez expressed heartfelt gratitude for the steadfast support that her campus has received from the UISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos. Ramirez was an Assistant Principal when the campus opened in 1999 and ascended to the role of Principal in 2004. In addition, five members of the faculty and staff from its opening year (1999), attended the gala. The program included performances by the Washington Middle School Jazz Band, Muller elementary pre-k students, and choir, and the United High school Mariachi Unidos. “I commend my teachers and staff for maintaining an atmosphere that helps our students grow academically and personally. It is a blessing to work with so many caring and talented educators. I also wish to thank the Muller family for offering their assistance with projects over the years” said Ramirez.
