Laredo’s Flat Five Music School and You Should Be Marketing Consulting Services (Y.S.B.M.), joined forces to collect school supplies for U.I.S.D. students. Supplies were collected by way of the “Back to School Blues Giving back to Our Youth” concert, which was held on September 8 at the Flat Five studios on McPherson Road. Attendees gained admission to the show by donating school supplies at the door. Over 1,000 school supply items including notebooks, binders, crayons, and spiral notebooks were collected and donated to U.I.S.D. for distribution to students. Fred Barrera, co-owner of Five Flats Studios said that he and his business partner Jonathan Arias were looking for a way to give back to the community. “We spoke to or consultants at Y.S.B.M. about gathering school supplies and donating them to U.I.S.D. They helped us with the event and publicity. They also contacted U.I.S.D. on our behalf. As music educators we understand that many students need help, and we are glad that we can make a positive difference for them. We plan to make the benefit concert an annual event”, said Barrera.
