United ISD is proud to announce that eight high school students have qualified as Texas All State Musicians in 2012. These students qualified for this prestigious honor through a rigorous audition process that began in October/November as the first audition and ended with the final audition on January 7th. A combined total of 7 Band members from United, United South and Alexander High Schools qualified this year along with one choir member from United HS. The audition process had the students performing prepared musical etudes for a panel of five judges. Only the top scoring students would advance to the next level. These eight students will travel to San Antonio to participate with other All State musicians in the Texas Music Educators Association conference on February 8th through 11th. After rehearsing and preparing new music, the students will perform in various concerts which will be held in the Lila Cockrell Theater on Saturday, February 11th.
Javier Vera, Director of Fine Arts stated “being selected as an All State Musician in Texas is one of the highest musical honors that can be achieved by high school musicians.
Through their diligent work in preparing musically and mentally and with the guidance of their band/choir directors, these students were outstanding in musical performance thus
were selected as being the best in Texas! Congratulations to our All State Musicians!”
