UISD Continues to Take a Stand Against Bullying
“Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” and “Take a Stand Against Bullies” are two simple, but direct phrases the United Independent School District is using in its anti-bullying posters that are being distributed and posted at each of its elementary and secondary campuses.

According to school psychologists, “bullying” is considered an “intentional act in the form of an aggressive behavior that includes verbal, physical, social, relational, emotional, or cyber bullying” – or any combination of these.

School psychologists say that bullying involves an “imbalance of power” and is often repeated over a period of time.  Additionally, bullying can consist of one child bullying another, a group of children ganging up against one lone child, or one group of kids targeting another group.

School experts believe common behaviors attributed to bullying include many of the following:  put-downs, name calling, rumors, gossip, verbal threats, menacing, harassment, intimidation, social isolation or exclusion, and physical assaults.

NO child should be bullied at UISD. Every student has the right to feel safe, secure and respected.
Any parent who has concerns about their child being bullied at school should immediately contact their child’s school principal or campus representative to report the issue.
