The mission of the School Health Program is
to strengthen the educational process of students by maximizing
the quality and quantity of in-class time and decreasing the
incidence of health related absenteeism by both students and
staff.
The School Health Program offers a combination of comprehensive
health services, supplemental health education and promotion of
a healthful school environment by serving students, parents,
school personnel and the community-at-large. Emphasis is placed
on a healthy lifestyle thru four major areas: prevention,
promotion, health education and screening.
The campus nurse, a health specialist, is an active member of
the educational team who is concerned with the whole child,
consequently, promoting optimal physical, mental, emotional and
social development. Currently, UISD employs 37 Registered
Nurses, 8 Licensed Vocational Nurses, 22 Health Assistants, 1
Department Secretary and 1 Health Office Clerk to meet the many
needs of 40 school campuses, PEP, JJAEP, district offices and
service areas.
