Leadership Diploma Plus Foundation to Recognize Superintendents at Fundraiser

The Leadership Diploma Plus Foundation (L.D.P.F.), announced that it  would be honoring UISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos and LISD Superintendent Dr. A. Marcus Nelson during next month’s fundraiser event.   The two educational leaders are being recognized for their support of the foundation’s scholarship program that has been helping many local students for the past five years.

L.D.P.F. is focused on lowering high school dropout rates and is unique in providing scholarships for pre-selected at-risk senior students from U.I.S.D., L.I.S.D. and students in the South Texas region.  In order to qualify for a $200.00 stipend during each report card period, students must maintain passing grades in all subjects and maintain a  90% class attendance rate.  This year,  41 students are receiving $800.00 in scholarships for a total of $32,000.00 in fund distributions. The money helps to ease the financial hardships faced by seniors during what is a pivotal year in their lives. The L.D.P.F. is pleased to announce  a  99% success rate amongst students who receive scholarships from their program. That is to say that 99% of them go on to graduate high school.

The official presentation of the Leadership Award  to Santos and Nelson will be during the foundation’s scholarship dance fundraiser scheduled for Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Laredo Civic Center Ballroom from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. midnight. Music will be provided by Grammy-winning artist Little Joe Y La Familia and Jimmy Edwards. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and raffle tickets will be sold at the door for student awards. Tickets are $20.00 each pre-sale and $25.00 at the door.  For table reservations, pre-sale tickets or more information, please call Ed Gonzalez at 285-7869, 753-7755 or 286-9055.
