“The primary purpose of social studies is to help young people develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.”-National Council for Social Studies

The Department of Instruction for Secondary Education in Social Studies is designed for the purpose of providing a consistent and well rounded academic program for all students. Our central goal is to provide students with an understanding and appreciation of diverse civilizations, past and present, thus enabling students to make connections as to how they have impacted societies politically, economically and socially.
