Wednesday, July 18th, 2012U.I.S.D. employee volunteers assisted during the at the 13th annual S.O.S. concert held at the L.E.A. The concert, hosted by Johnny Canales, featured musical performances by several Tejano music stars including Jay Perez, Elida y Avante, La Calma and Grupo Mazz. The annual event collects school supplies for distribution to U.I.S.D. and L.I.S.D. students. The event was sponsored by Judge Danny Valdez, the City of Laredo, Taco Palenque, AEP Texas, AT&T, Uni-Trade, Z-93 Radio, Fuddruckers, the Fernando A. Salinas Trust and Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

The United I.S.D. Instructional Television Department staff proudly displays two statuettes and certificates as Bronze winners in the 33rd Annual Telly Awards competition. With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this year’s Telly Awards was one of the most competitive in the long history of the competition. The two winning videos include the “United Let’s Move” music video which promotes exercise and healthy eating. “United S.T.E.M.,” was the other winning entry which highlights UISD’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs. Sheriff Martin Cuellar and his office made a considerable donation to the UISD Crime Stoppers program on June 28, 2012. Sheriff Cuellar presented a $5,000 check to United I.S.D. Chief Ray Garner on behalf of the Webb County Sheriff’s Office at today’s presentation held at United South Middle School Library. Sheriff Cuellar explained the important contribution that each and every one of the UISD students can make to help keep our school and county safe. The Crime Stoppers program rewards students with a monetary amount in exchange for tips of delinquency activity. UISD Chief Garner thanked the Webb County Sheriff’s Office for the generous amount received and assured them that the funds will be put to good use by the UISD Crime Stoppers program. The funds will continue to help maintain a safe and drug-free environment at all UISD campuses.
